US Army Hybrid Surveillance Airship

The Lockheed P-791 might just be the most ridiculous looking military vehicle in recent times but it indicates an important move toward sustainable army equipment. Although an altogether hypocritical notion, the 2,500 pound behemoth may not be designed to attack, but it certainly will confuse the insurgents in Afghanistan.
The machine spans the size of a football pitch and hovers at 20,000 feet. More interestingly, the beast can move at a pacey 34mph and can last 3 weeks airborne. The US government are set to spend close to $517 million for three P-791s and will be launching towards the Middle East in late 2011.

These Long Endurance Multi-Intelligence Vehicles (LEMV) will be manufactured by Northrop Grumman Corp.
