Copy 0909: The Journey of the Artist
On Thursday 9th September at the Chepstow Gallery in Notting Hill, combined artists of the Gihon River Collective, Vermont launched an exhibition in aid of supporting artists in residency. To those uninitiated in educationspeak a residency in this sense is more than just a chance to temporarily relocate. Artists from all around the world travel to a designated creative space where they live/breathe/eat their work in the company of their peers. In Vermont, the residencies last for a month and our well-travelled exhibitors are the class of September 2009, as such, they named their display Copy0909.
Since the earlier post on the reward of commitment, the Urban Times has been working with the exhibition curator, Christy Symington, to produce a short film in conjunction with their month long display. This has included interviews with artists, documentation of the different events that have been happening, pick-up shots of the area and more. Although we are still only mid-shoot, we have accrued a lot of new friends and followers, many of whom have helped or featured in the documentary film.
