GMO the BIG FAT Secret

You’ve heard the term GMO, but which “foods” contain Genetically Modified Organisms?  If you live in America, it’s a big FAT secret because Monsanto has convinced the FDA that GMO crops didn’t need testing or labeling because they were identical to regular corn, soy and canola. Yet at the same time Monsanto was able to get patents on the GMO seeds because they were so drastically different.  Big contradiction, wouldn’t you say?

Genetically Engineered foods have quietly filled U.S. grocery store shelves over the past two decades with corn and canola found in an estimated 60 percent of all processed foods.  If you’re wondering why your waist is getting wider and your butt is super sized, it’s possibly because your body doesn’t process products containing GMO the way that natural foods do, plus the side effects are harmful, causing disease related issues.

“In the early 1990s, the scientific consensus at the FDA was that GM foods were inherently dangerous and might create hard-to-detect allergies, poisons, gene transfer to gut bacteria, new diseases and nutritional problems. The FDA’s own scientists recommended rigorous long-term testing of these new foods! In a political climate that ordered the FDA to promote biotechnology, the FDA responded by recruiting Michael Taylor, Monsanto’s former attorney, to oversee the formation of GMO policy. Under White House political pressure to rush GM foods to market, the agency officials rubber-stamped research from the biotech companies like Monsanto. Employees of the FDA and the Biotech industry routinely switch sides. Mr. Taylor later returned to the biotech industry to become Monsanto’s vice president and in January 2010, was appointed deputy commissioner for foods at FDA. This revolving door between government regulators at the FDA and the biotech industry allowed GE foods to enter our food supply over ten years ago with virtually no safety studies or a single published, human clinical trial.”

In Europe, GMO products were labeled, tested and the side effects have been documented on the animals that were feed GMO products. The harmful side effects are why Monsanto GMO seeds have been banned in Europe since 1999. The retail products were also labeled and tested so consumers could make the choice for themselves and they choose not to buy GMO products.

When in the United States, you want to avoid GMO products, so buy Organic or read the package and look for NON-GMO products.
