Nature’s Flightpath
As we look up at the clouds we see blue and white (if we’re lucky) and it seems, besides the odd scattering of birds, as though nothing comes between us and outer-space. This would be incorrect.
Overhead us is a worldwide swarm of Planet Earth’s beautifully weird insects. From the gleeful flight of the common beetle, to the elegant prancing of the ladybird, the sky is the highway of the bug. The video below is a beautifully narrated animation following the migration patterns of various insects.
Look up at the sky and what do you see? Well, blue, yes. And maybe a plane or a bird, but otherwise … nothing. Or so you think. It turns out that right above you, totally invisible, is an enormous herd of animal life — tiny bugs riding the wind currents. [Source: NPR]
