Hip Hip Hurrah! A Week of Eco-Friendly Party Tips. Part 2
“Simplify, Simplify” – Henry David Thoreu
Convenience has birthed all sorts of fun party provisions such as colored and themed tableware for special events. There are a myriad of options to help make your event special, including styrofoam plates and cups, paper napkins and plastic tablecloths. Thankfully, there are an increasing number of eco-friendlier alternatives for serving your favorite party treats and beverages which have less of a negative impact on our environment. What if we could simplify and create the least amount of waste as possible when planning our next celebration?
REUSE AND RECYCLE IN STYLE
For my outdoor parties, I am using a combination of eco-friendly products such as plant-based compostable cutlery and fallen bamboo leaf plates and bowls, as well as cloth napkins and tablecloths, and 100% recycled paper napkins. I am also using my own glass and ceramic cups and pitchers as alternatives to acrylic and plastic beverage containers. With one party under my green belt, and friends who were eager to help with clean up, I already know the next event will feature my own stainless steel silverware and earthenware plates and cups.
The best way to serve your party provisions and the planet is to avoid plastics as much as possible. Do serve on your own everyday glass, earthenware, stainless steel, wooden, bamboo, and/or ceramic dishes, cups, and silverware. What a nice personal touch! Enlist a friend or all of your guests to help you clean up afterward and you have made a significant difference in solidarity.
I believe “going green“ is more about the way in which one begins to make increasingly informed choices about harmonious living on the planet Earth and less about carrying around a rigid score board of one’s greenest activities and products. Living a changed attidude based on inspiration and knowledge of green alternatives, and also sharing your experiences with others is the most meaningful way to develop and live an eco-friendly lifestyle.
Have a great time serving up a fantastic eco-friendly party and do come back soon for ideas on games and entertainment for your next event!
