Living Light Interiors
One of the defining aspects of the Living Light interior is that it challenges the way we think about a traditional home, adopting a loft like space in a stand-alone home. Rather than dividing the house into separate partitions devoted to different uses, the interior utilizes the space in a way that facilitates the merging of spaces which reduces the footprint of the building and reduces the demand for energy. The multifunctional idea reoccurs throughout the design, even in the finishing accessories and details. The Living Light team has made an effort to choose items for the house that allow us to display the flexibility of the large living space in a bold and organized way.
The team uses modular furniture in this space so that it can easily adapt for different uses. During normal day hours, the living space is arranged for relaxation and day-to-day entertainment, with the living room furniture directed at the entertainment center. When the house is on exhibit, the home will be set up in this fashion as well..
On nights that the homeowner is entertaining, the sofa is arranged to open the space to accommodate more people. The indoor/outdoor dining table on the patio can be carried inside to provide additional dining space, using the storage boxes as seating around the table.
During night hours, the modular sofa is rearranged to allow the Murphy bed to comfortably slide out of the cabinetry. The sofa can then function as a guest bed for visitors of the homeowners. Storage boxes are used as nightstands in the bedroom.

The team used a split complimentary color scheme within the house, selecting items that not only provide visual interest and emphasis, but also tell the story of comfortable, contemporary living. Two core private areas housing the bathroom, mechanical systems, and storage are finished in a dark mahogany wood veneer, contrasting the light, white oak floor. To begin building up the space, we ordered ivory and white furniture. A modular carpet square rug will help define the sitting area, and is an excellent way to achieve a custom pattern that is adaptable in size for various uses. For bright pops of color, we chose orange accessories like the pillows pictured above. These finishing details will help facilitate the big idea of the Living Light house in a sleek and subtle way.
