10 Sensational Elephant Photographs
For a number of reasons, elephants happen to be one of my favourite creatures on Earth. Maybe it was my grandmother’s adoration for them that made an indelible impact, or perhaps it is their enigmatic nature that I find almost oracular. I feel as though they are wiser than humans, not just because they are wrinkled faced, but because they literally “never forget”. Apparently, their social memory is indeed very strong and can remember a familiar face much like we can. This is something of an upside when trying to remember who is really a member of your herd and who is simply an intruder… you will not fool the Matriarch. Ever.
They are quirky mammals, and so endearing because of it. Who would have thought such a large, clumsy beast could swim so adeptly? Who would have thought that some elephants are quite openly gay? Whether African or Asian, the elephant is a creature to be admired, respected and cherished and I hope that this post can in some way open your eyes to their natural good looks and awkward elegance. Let’s help save the endangered Elephants: elephantfamily.org.
Within the boundaries of Etosha Nationalpark in Northern Namibia there are three campsites. The biggest of them beeing “Okaukuejo”, located at a big waterhole with the same name. I spent the first night of my recent visit last November sitting at the waterhole, watching different animals drink and interact. But not only the animals but also the scenery of the waterhole itself, changing colors during the sunset was amazing. That’s when I took this picture of an elephant and a giraffe drinking right next to each other at the waterhole.
