Earth, Starscapes and Nebulae by Vladislav Solojov
Vladislav Solovjov is a young (he’s only 19) Motion Designer and Film maker from Saint-Petersburg, Russia. We don’t know much about him, except for the fact that he has talent in abundance. The two videos below ‘Stellar‘ and ‘Effect‘ combine glorious sound and stunningly defined visuals in a cocktail for the senses that leaves you enthralled. The films are a depiction of earth, starscapes and nebulae interwoven with surreal patterns of light and dust, in fine-grained highly textured black & white frames. There is something in the detail that is reminiscent of Andrei Tarkovsky, the Soviet genius who died tragically in 1986, and in the texture and grain of Kazuaki Kiriya’s tribute to the science fiction anime, ‘Casshern’ (2004). VSolovjov may even be channeling something from those mesmerizing creation scenes in Terrence Malick’s ‘The Tree of Life‘.
In the comments on vimeo, some people have postulated how they could visualize a feature length science-fiction film that uses the same visual detail and texture – and that is certainly true in our eyes. Find an excellent science-fiction script – perhaps something based on an Iain M. Banks novel – and bring Solovjov’s creative abilities to the fold. We’d see it.
