Days Until the New Year
Greetings holiday lovers, holiday spenders and those who are “disapproving” of holiday cheer. As you know the end of the year has arrived, catapulting us into the new year of 2012. Some have predicted death, the coming of Armageddon and so forth. Some an enhanced party experience in the coming days, but what do you really gain from a New Year?
We often look past our lives letting youthful age slip through our fingers, leaving time to craft a bucket-list for your mature lifestyle. Sleep becomes more of a friend then a foe after the Daylight Savings re-appears. New Year’s Eve has brought the lifeblood back to major cities and culture. 2011 has been difficult for many, ranging from the Housing Crisis in the US, Egypt and Libya’s victory of Hosni Mubarak and Muammar Gaddafi to Europe’s economic downfall has been uplifting yet devastating.
As we spend our hard earned taxed income on gifts for loved ones, let us remember that holiday cheer is just that, cheer for the holidays. So what do we really gain from a New Year? Spread cheer beyond the holiday boundaries. If you love the pleasantries from holiday humbleness, extended that same spirit throughout March, or even April. For example:
- If weight loss is a goal, take precautions to ensure you don’t quit after January.
- Chasing a job or promotion? Display your talent by the age old “Work smarter instead of harder” slogan.
- If job loss has affected you, continue on your journey for employment. A career change could be in order.
- Relationship in the pits? Make a romantic pledge to your loved one and vow to grow deeper into the New Year together.
If you are alone this year, take it as a sign and do what I do, a routine self-evaluation checklist. How can you improve on becoming a better person? Through giving opportunities or seizing them for starters. Grow closer to good family and friends, which you will surely need in the coming year.
So what do we gain from New Year? Just that….A New Year.
