Rick Perry: Weak
Rick Perry, governor of Texas and GOP presidential hopeful, has sparked great controversy and public outrage with his new campaign message, ‘Strong’. In it he uses the words ‘gays’ and ‘something wrong in this country’ in the same sentence; he argues for discrimination against Christians; and claims to be the man best suited to end ‘Obama’s war on religion’. Many consider his words hate speech, which, although veiled, carries vitriol for the gay community and liberalism.
The Urban Times have already run a piece on Perry’s message, titled Rick Perry Strong – or Bigotry In Public Discourse. The piece identifies bigotry as the driving force behind Perry’s attitude. Following up on that piece, and in line with the popular outcry against this message – and hate speech in general – let us now present a few of the best responses to Perry’s reprehensible ‘Strong’, reminding everyone that bigotry cannot be allowed to go unchallenged – and that bigots exist to be made fun of.
