Time For A Food Fight
Do you eat Genetically Engineered Food?
A GMO (genetically modified organism) is the result of a laboratory process where genes from the DNA of one species are extracted and artificially forced into the genes of an unrelated plant or animal. The foreign genes may come from bacteria, viruses, insects, animals or even humans. Because this involves the transfer of genes, GMOs are also known as “transgenic” organisms. – responsibletechnology.org
Are you eating Genetically Engineered Foods? If you live in The United States most Americans have no idea that the FDA allows GMO, Genetically Modified Organisms in the foods we eat. Our government takes no responsibility to label or test these foods. If you eat corn, canola and soy, over eighty percent of these crops are genetically engineered. If you eat processed foods, they all contain genetically engineered ingredients like high fructose corn syrup, which is the number one ingredient for weight gain.

Why Genetically Engineered Crops?
The Bio-tech companies were very convincing in their pitch to feed the world’s population. The seeds are modified with chemicals to withstand the harsher herbicides that are injected into the seeds. The theory was increased production, an excellent business model at the time, which sometimes proved untrue. Do you remember last year when India farmers were committing suicide over the failure of their genetically engineered cotton crops?

Our Eco System
All the synthetic chemicals used to create Genetically Engineered crops and the harsh pesticides used to kill bugs and weeds are contaminating our Eco system. These toxins are polluting the soil, rivers and streams affecting animals, beneficial insects and aquatic life. You know how important bees are to pollen flowers, fruits and veggie crops. Bees have been disappearing at an alarming rate during the past few years.
Collateral Damage
Collateral damage is caused by mutations throughout the plant’s DNA (e-coili for example) and cross pollination into our natural food supply.
Patents on Seeds
Monsanto (a multinational agricultural biotechnology corporation) bought most of the seed companies worldwide between 1995 and 2005. They can now charge four times more for their Genetically Engineered seeds which are significantly different from natural seeds. By modifying the seed’s DNA with a virus and chemicals, Monsanto has acquired patents on these seeds with no testing required for our health and safety by the FDA.

Human Side Effects
The chemicals used are saturating the foods we eat with toxins that our bodies are rejecting in the form of allergies, digestive disorders, fertility issues, damage to our immune systems and cancer.
Choice
When animals have the choice of natural corn in one trough and genetically engineered corn in another, the animals will eat the natural corn and ignore the genetically engineered. Don’t you think Americans should have the same choice? Click here for your Non-GMO shopping guide that you can download to your iPhone.
Worldwide Non-GMO
Europeans are among 50 countries that agreed to label genetically engineered foods in the nineties. Scientists discovered and consumers decided that there was more harm being done than good and many GMO crops were banned by 1999.
California Initiative 2012
According to Treehugger.com 87% of Americans Want Genetically Modified Foods Labeled
California is the first state to organize with Pamm Larry, the instigator of what has now become a broad coalition of consumers, consumer groups, health organizations, farmer’s groups, food groups, etc, who have all come together in supporting our right to know what is in our food. The coalition website is carighttoknow.org This state-wide advocacy of volunteers, needs 800,000 registered voters signatures between Feb 18th and April 18th, to place, The California Right To Know Genetically Engineered Food Act of 2012, on the November ballot.

Our country needs to realize the hidden agenda that the U.S. government has been hiding from its citizens. Would you eat genetically engineered foods now, knowing what you know?
Vote
A majority of citizens are needed to vote yes in November, for California to make labeling GMO a state law. Only then will food manufacturers be required to label genetically engineered ingredients on food packaging, the same way all U.S. food manufacturers have been labeling their genetically engineered products for other countries for over ten years.
Beware
The Bio-tech Goliath’s will be spending huge sums of money to convince voters that there is no reason to label genetically engineered foods because they say there is no difference. If that is true, why does Monsanto hold so many patents for genetically engineered seeds? These companies are reaping huge profits on products that are harming our bodies and our Eco system.
In America, the only way you can be sure that that you are not eating genetically engineered food, is to buy organic and stay away from processed foods. Why are Americans the most unhealthy people in all of the industrial nations? The answer could possibly be genetically engineered foods.
