Heinrich Hertz: For your 155th Birthday You Get a Google Doodle

Happy Birthday Heinrich Rudolf Hertz who would turn 155 today. We only know this because continuing a long line of Google logo experimentation, Sophia Foster-Dimino (an illustrator and cartoonist who was hired by the Google Doodle team in 2010), has created the wonderfully termed Hertz doodle. Foster-Dimino said:

“For this Doodle, we chose to create a simple and elegant homage for (Heinrich) Hertz… so extensive were his experiments that there’s a unit of frequency, the hertz, named for him.”

Thanks Google Doodle for letting us know.

Heinrich Rudolf Hertz was given the Prime Spot with Wednesday

Heinrich Rudolf Hertz (February 22, 1857 – January 1, 1894) was a German physicist and his work is crucial to most forms of communication technology, specifically television, radio, and Wi-Fi. According to Wikipedia, Hertz:

clarified and expanded the electromagnetic theory of light that had been put forth by Maxwell. He was the first to conclusively prove the existence of electromagnetic waves by engineering instruments to transmit and receive radio pulses using experimental procedures that ruled out all other known wireless phenomena.

Facts about Heinrich Rudolf Hertz

Wikipedia.

  • The unit of frequency, the “hertz“, was named after him. A Hertz is defined as the number of cycles per second of a periodic phenomenon, and becase part of the metric system in 1933.
  •  1886 Hertz was the first successful experimentalist to prove Maxwell‘s theory of electromagnetism by generating and detect electromagnetic radiation.
  • He always had a deep interest in meteorology probably derived from his contacts with Wilhelm von Bezold.
  • Hertz died young at thirty-six years old of Wegener’s granulomatosis in Germany in 1894, and was buried in Ohlsdorf, Hamburg at the Jewish cemetery.
  • Hertz’s left behind wife, Elizabeth Hertz and two daughters, Joanna and Mathilde.
  • Hertz was a Lutheran, but his “Jewish” portrait was removed by the Nazis from its prominent position of honor in Hamburg’s City Hall (Rathaus) because of his partly “Jewish ancestry.”

Was George Washington's birthday today

Mr.Hertz received his international approval without Google. All his investigation and his scientific reaches worked during more than 100 years without Google. Google as well as any represantant of Google in form of "reporter", "investigator" or else is not authorized to give any statements or opinions or legal rights declarations in name of Mr. Hertz. The official "radio-frequence" is not related to Google. So stop inmediately all this "bla-bla-bla-interventions" or Mrs. Hertz will call you to duty.
