Susan Greenfield
Baroness Susan Greenfield is Professor of Pharmacology at Oxford University. She is a neuroscientist, writer and broadcaster, amongst being a member of the House of Lords. She has been awarded 30 Honorary Degrees from British and foreign universities. Susan has developed an interest in 21st Century technologies and the impact on how this makes people think and feel.
Susan argues that new digital technologies are rewiring the brain’s frontal cortex – the area of the brain responsible for cognitive analysis and abstract thought. Greenfield suggests that ‘mind change’, brought on by increasing internet use and the popularity of social media sites like Twitter and Facebook, will be the new climate change.
Urban Times recently conducted an interview with Susan regarding the effects that internet use has on the brain, so watch this space for the footage.
